Pierce County favored in 1-AAA

Region 1-AAA was formed last season after the GHSA made a major realignment — and Pierce County took advantage of its new surroundings by rolling through region play with a perfect 7-0 record. Savannah schools Johnson, Beach and Savannah High moved to the region from Region 3-AAAAA, where they had been playing two levels above their true enrollment.

The Bears advanced to the second round of the Class AAA playoffs and have to be considered the favorites to repeat as Region 1-AAA champions.

Pierce County quarterback Tyler Harris is back running the offense that averaged more than 36 points a game last season. Harris, a pro-style quarterback, made a verbal commitment to play at Southern Methodist University in Dallas earlier this month.

Harris should have solid protection with four starters returning on the offensive line, including seniors Brandon Chancey and Clay Taylor, according to the Blackshear Times.

Please if you will add that Tyler Harris is a Brantley native whose father and family were alumini of the BCHS Herons and Tyler only moved to Pierce last year. Previously he had led the Brantley County Herons. Let’s give credit to the Hometown Kid and his family.
