McIntosh school superintedent pleads not guilty to failing to report child abuse

McIntosh County School Superintendent Tina Kirby pleaded not guilty Thursday to failure to report child abuse and obstruction of an officer.

Kirby’s lawyer, Keith Higgins, entered her plea in McIntosh County Superior Court during an arraignment and was given 30 days to file motions in her defense.

She, Assistant Superintendent Larry Day and McIntosh County Principal Terrance Haywood have all be indicted on the misdemeanor charge of failure to report child abuse. A McIntosh County grand jury returned an indictment accusing Kirby of misdemeanor obstruction in preventing a school resource officer from investigating a complaint that a former math teacher had sex with three of her students.
