Ludowici gambling operator says he paid former Savannah chief to keep cops away

Randall Roach, 63 of Ludowici, had nothing to say Wednesday as he walked out of a federal courthouse in Savannah. The Long County man pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal gambling and conspiracy.

But just hours later, Roach returned and changed his plea to guilty. As part of the agreement, Roach pleaded guilty to just conspiracy, and would get a reduced sentence for providing information against former Savannah Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett.
