Charlton gets $300,000 to protect firefighters

Charlton County is going to use over $300,000 in FEMA grant funds to purchase what could be life-saving equipment for its volunteer firefighters.

At last week’s regular county commission meeting, the board voted unanimously to accept the $319,000 grant which was applied for by Assistant Fire Chief for the South County C.L. Lewis. The county will add a “match” of $16,000 when the grant is received.
